About the Role

From navigating barriers and accessing resources to working toward greater stability and independence, your empathy and sound judgment can help make the next step feel possible.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide day-to-day support to shelter residents
• Assist with client intake, orientation, and basic assessments
• Conduct wellness and safety checks
• Provide crisis intervention, de-escalation, and harm reduction support
• Respond to emergencies, conflicts, overdoses, and critical incidents
• Connect residents with shelter services and community resources
• Maintain professional boundaries and client confidentiality
• Maintain a safe and clean shelter environment
• Complete shift reports, case notes, and incident reports
• Communicate relevant information during shift handovers
• Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, legislation, and health and safety requirements
Education
• Diploma or degree in Social Service Work, Child and Youth Care/Worker, Social Work, Psychology, Addictions and Mental Health, or a related discipline
• Related experience is an asset
• New graduates welcome
Requirements
• Experience supporting individuals experiencing homelessness, mental health concerns, substance use, or crisis situations is an asset
• Knowledge or experience in harm reduction, overdose response, and crisis intervention is an asset (training provided)
• Strong interpersonal, communication, conflict-resolution, and de-escalation skills
• Ability to maintain a non-judgmental and trauma-informed approach
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.

• WHMIS Certificate
• Occupational Health & Safety Awareness Certificate
